The Challenge
A fashion tech startup approached AICOG with an ambitious idea: use AI to classify outfit pairings — helping users understand which clothing items work well together. They had the vision and early traction, but needed a working prototype to demonstrate technical viability to investors.
Without a technical co-founder or in-house data science capability, they needed someone who could move fast, build something real, and help them tell a credible technology story to potential backers.
Our Approach
We worked closely with the founding team to rapidly prototype a deep learning image classification model using PyTorch, trained and deployed on Google Cloud Platform virtual machines.
The key priorities were:
- Speed over perfection — investors needed to see a working demo, not a production system
- Visual, tangible results — the model needed to classify outfit pairings in a way that was immediately understandable to non-technical stakeholders
- A credible technical foundation — the architecture needed to be sound enough that investors could see a path from prototype to product
We iterated quickly, working through data preparation, model training, and evaluation cycles to deliver a prototype that could demonstrate the core concept convincingly.
The Results
The startup used the prototype to demonstrate their product’s technical feasibility and secured their first round of investment.
The working model gave investors confidence that the technology behind the vision was real and achievable — turning a pitch deck concept into something they could see and interact with.
Why This Matters for Small Businesses
You don’t need a full data science team to explore what AI can do for your business. A focused prototype — built by someone who understands both the technology and the commercial context — can be enough to validate an idea, secure funding, or prove a concept before committing to a larger build.
That’s exactly how AICOG works: start small, prove the value, then scale.
